ABOUT /əˈbaʊt/
Interiors and gardens, decoded. The thinking behind the spaces you love.
You see a space you love. In a magazine, on Instagram, through the window of a restaurant or in the corner of a members' club. You know it works. What you can't quite put your finger on is why.
Everything But is about the why.
Who's behind it?
I'm Jill Dawson. I've spent twenty years renovating houses and gardens, while working in marketing and brand, where much of my job has been figuring out why some ideas land and others don't.
Everything But is where the two meet.
I pull spaces apart and put them back together, decoding the decisions that make them work, from proportion and colour to materials, furniture and the small details quietly holding everything together.
Because good design isn't just something to look at. It's something you can understand, borrow from and make your own. No rules. No design jargon. Just a closer look at why good spaces work.
Finding your way around
-
IN is interiors, decoded. Rooms, materials, details and the thinking behind them.
-
OUT takes the same eye outside. Gardens, terraces and balconies designed to work every bit as hard as the rooms within.
-
THE EDIT turns inspiration into something you can actually use. We decode a look, identify the pieces doing the heavy lifting, then find ways to recreate it without spending a fortune.
A couple of things to know
Some links on Everything But are affiliate links, including links through the Amazon Associates programme. If you buy through one, I may earn a small commission. It doesn't cost you anything extra, and commission never decides what makes the edit.
Everything But is also a small operation, with a small-operation photography budget. So, occasionally, you'll see generated imagery used to illustrate an idea, mood or look. It will never be used to pass off an imagined space as a real one, or to misrepresent a product.
