1. Who we are

Everything But ("we", "us", "our") is an interiors and gardens publication operated by Jill Dawson. We are the data controller for personal data collected through everythingbutthekitchensink.co.uk. Questions about this policy, or about your data, go to jill@everythingbutthekitchensink.co.uk.

2. What we collect

a. If you subscribe to The Edit, contact us, or submit a form, we collect your name and email address, along with anything else you choose to include in your message.

b. When you visit the site we may collect your IP address, device and browser type, approximate location derived from your IP address, the pages you view, how you arrived, and how you interact with the site. This is collected through cookies and similar technologies, and only where you have consented to non-essential cookies.

3. How we use it, and our legal basis

a. Send you The Edit and other emails you have signed up for, Consent
b. Reply to your enquiries, Legitimate interests, in responding to people who contact us
c. Analyse how the site is used and improve our content, Consent, through analytics cookies
d. Track referrals to retailers so we are credited with commission, Consent, through advertising and affiliate cookies
e. Keep records and meet our legal obligations, Legal obligation

You can withdraw consent at any time. Every email has an unsubscribe link, and you can change your cookie preferences using the link in our footer.

4. Affiliate links and commission

Everything But may earn commission through affiliate programmes, including the Amazon EU Associates Programme.

When you click an affiliate link on this site, the retailer or affiliate network may set a cookie in your browser that identifies the referral as coming from us, so we can be credited if you go on to buy something. That cookie is set by the retailer or network, not by us, and typically lasts 24 hours.

We do not receive your name, address or payment details from these purchases. We may receive anonymised or aggregated reporting on the number of clicks, orders and commission earned. The price you pay is unaffected.

The retailer's own privacy policy governs anything that happens once you leave our site.

5. Cookies

Cookies are small files stored on your device. We use them as follows.

a. Strictly necessary cookies keep the site working and remember your cookie choices. These do not require consent.

b. Analytics cookies tell us which pages are read and how people move through the site. This is limited to HubSpot analytics and Google Analytics 4.

c. Marketing and affiliate cookies attribute referrals to retailers and support any advertising or social features.

Non-essential cookies are not set until you accept them through our cookie banner. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time in the footer. You can also block cookies in your browser, though parts of the site may stop working properly.

6. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data.

We share it with service providers who help us run the site and our mailing list, each under contract and only for the purposes we specify. We may also disclose data where the law requires it, or to establish or defend legal claims.

7. International transfers

Some of our providers are based outside the UK, including in the United States. Where personal data is transferred outside the UK, we rely on appropriate safeguards, being the UK International Data Transfer Agreement, the UK Addendum to the EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework.

8. How long we keep it

- Mailing list data: until you unsubscribe, and for 12 months afterwards to honour your opt-out
- Enquiries and correspondence: 24 months from your last contact
- Analytics data: 12 months

9. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to access your data, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, to data portability, to withdraw consent at any time, and to object to direct marketing at any time. To exercise any of these, email jill@everythingbutthekitchensink.co.uk. We will respond within one month.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, or on 0303 123 1113.

10. Security

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your data, including encrypted connections and access controls on the systems we use. No transmission over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

11. Other sites

This site links to third-party retailers and websites. We are not responsible for their content or their privacy practices, and we encourage you to read their policies before sharing your data with them.
